Sealed Meal-Prep Trays

For meal prep, grab-and-go and delivery kitchens, the tray is only half the product — the seal is the other half, and it fails at the flange far more often than it fails at the film.

The flange is the flat lip the film is heat-sealed onto. It has to be flat, clean and wide enough for the sealing tool, and it has to be free of the tiny forming ridges that a cheap die leaves behind. One ridge is a channel, and a channel is a leak.

So we quote the flange width and the die condition alongside the tray, and we will ask what machine you are sealing on, because a hand sealer and an inline tray sealer want different things. Oven-safe and chilled-only specifications are different materials and we will not blur them.

Why do our sealed trays leak?
Almost always the flange, not the film. If the sealing lip has forming ridges, is uneven, or is narrower than the sealing tool, you get a channel and a channel leaks. Check the flange before you change film supplier.
Is an oven-safe tray the same as a chilled one?
No, and it is worth being firm about. They are different materials with different temperature limits, and using a chilled-only tray in an oven is a genuine safety issue rather than a quality one. We will not supply one described as the other.
